they aren't necessarily dead – nyaa just doesn't know the seed count, since existing seeds don't automatically report to the new tracker

but many torrents still work because they're on DHT (except of course "private" ones like Blitz's...)

I must disagree here, DHT don't help much for most of the torrents up to year ago as long as nyaa's tracker is dead,

some torrents sites still shows the old nyaa's tracker seeder preview and boy they show some healthy seed there, too bad these people still seed to the Wrong tracker.
