Unlike most things in this anime, you couldn't exactly google the Journey to the West reference. And explaining it fully would take too long in the show (though we did mention what it was a reference to, since it took up a significant part of the dialogue). So in case you don't read the site... here's the reference more in depth:

After Dalian calls two men a pig and a monkey, Journey to the West pops into her head. Why? The fable features characters called Monkey and Pigsy (according to the localized version I read). She then talks about an oriental river demon (Sandy, who escorts a monk to Tianzhu along with Monkey and Pigsy). This monk is called Tripitaka, and that is the main goal of Journey to the West -- getting Tripitaka to Tianzhu. Now you're officially Chinese. Enjoy.
