Synopsis: Living a double existence she can't remember, Yumi, a soft-spoken student, becomes a notorious delinquent once the lights go out. Caught between two clashing selves, she faces the fear of losing control, and the longing to reinvent everything.

This is the original Janus no Kagami TV Drama from 1985. A big thank you to menhera for supplying the base English subtitle translation and for donating both DVD box sets of the show, allowing me to create a new encode that is superior to what was already out there. They approached me back in 2024 to do Janus as a collaboration project, so credit goes to them for making this project possible.

Typical of Daiei, and unlike series like Sukeban Deka, Janus deals with delinquency in a more grounded manner, while tackling real-life issues such as mental health, trauma and abuse and corporal punishment, and it also brings that unmistakable Daiei touch in the way it edits its action beats, and those quick, stylish cuts and sudden rhythm shifts that really pop when Yumi flips into her alter ego. The show carries some of the same energetic spirit you'd see in Toei's productions, which makes sense since both aired around the same time on Fuji TV, so there's this little bit of shared DNA that lets Janus sit comfortably alongside other Sukeban-style action shows. There's also a 2019 remake version, but, well, the less said about it, the better, lol. Enjoy all 18 episodes!
