@ergzay Honorifics were dropped for the same reason they were from the ToT release. If I change Sensei to Coach, do I have to keep Okaasan? Do I use mom-san? Rather than debating over where to draw the line in the sand, TL decided English only. There was never any spite, it's just a shitpost. I suggested Mittens from Ep3 because every thread was referring to her as such in the leadup to her introduction. Is it Mittens time? Where the fuck is Mittens? If it was kept Mike(y/h) or Meowy was used, the amount of upsetness in viewers would likely have gone up.

I intended to just post some meme shitpost about honorifics but I see the passion in NingyoHime, and want to see that passion lead to something positive. Don't let this nyaa comments bullshit kill that spark. I for one would watch a fully fledged [NingyoHime] release and would support you along the way.

Honorifics have been dropped.

Americans speak with no honor. Only profanity and be fat. You lack the will of the samurai.

Hello.

I'm a Nyaa commenter, apparently, and my job is to sit and watch anime. What have I learned, that I can say about this release?

Well, firstly, it's quite big. Which is excellent.

Because if it was really small, you know microscopic, then hardly anybody would be able read the subs at all, which would be a tremendous shame.

Secondly... and I'm getting quite near the end now of this analysis.

Secondly... Why was it worth this group here spending over 500 combined hours of their free time on this episode?

The answer is... Well...

This release is worth such a lot of effort because...

It's a fansub... of Medalist.

And, as I've learnt by staying with my friends, [Salchow] and their viewers, fansubs are very important.

And even though [Salchow] were perfectly aware that Medalist was animated by a hideous old studio who drew like they had a cactus lodged up their backside... they stuck with her, and even took the time to craft this amazing fansub of her.

It's not just a release. It's a fansub of a mad old show they thought the world of.

And that's marvellous.

That's what I think.

Examples of extra timewasting bullshit:

  • Almost all JP text masked with redrawn gradients, including the frames were characters move in front of them and it pans and stuff. I gave out and commented out the blank on 18:45 due to the high gradient and tile moving over it, and couple at the end, seeing as it's Wednesday already to actually release sometime this week, but will put them back after the series ends.
  • Added a bunch of in-text effects in the OP and karaoke style to the ED. Are they any good?
  • Position of subs moving out of the way of important things now eases in and out (with fancy cubic hermite spline calcs) like Flash instead of jittering around with the built-in libass linear move function.
  • The part of the OP that moves is properly motion tracked in Mocha and not 5 keyframes linearly.
  • Non default Arial font finally. The billboard font's a bit shit, but I couldn't find a better one in the time. Not sure if I attached them to the mkv properly (did it work?), and realized I TS-ed to the wrong font (misspelled it and was using a fallback, fug) and had to fix a a bunch of spacing and stuff last minute. Fuck me.
  • Put the elephant back in :^) (this is less bragging and more justifying to TL anon why I took forever)
