So YT premium offers about double the bitrate of non premium (3415k vs 1704k). Interesting that they use VP9 instead of AV1, probably VP9 has better detail retention at lower resolutions(example 1080p).
I don't think that's it. The YT Premium encodes destroy a lot of fine detail. My best guess is that they're worried about people being able to decode AV1.
You are right, I forgot about the compatibility aspect.
Doesn't this mean you can watch any YT video with better bitrate without paying for Premium?
