This is the original 1988 anime adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

Some information on this release:

This release is the raw LaserDisc footage captured onto a DVD then converted into MKV files with English subtitles, more specifically this rip was made by Piyo Piyo Productions (PPP-Raw) and then subtitled by Orphan Fansubs however the Orphan release uses a heavily compressed and denoised re-encode of the original footage and even the original uncompressed footage was released in .ZIP files with a bunch of VOB and IFO files in them for some reason so when I wanted the raw footage for my upscale I literally had to reform all the separate files into 2 ISO files in order for me to rip them which was a bit of a pain in the arse.

After that I had the 3 480i lossless volume files (which you can find on my archive page), I just used handbrake to separate the episodes into individual video files then after that I added in Orphan's subtitles but unfortunately the credits they added to the opening kept displaying off the screen, I couldn't fix this and had to just remove the credits. - I would have kept the files interlaced but for some reason they just didn't deinterlace properly in VLC or Films and TV applications so I deinterlaced them with HandBrake instead.

In terms of the actual video quality just remember this was recorded from a noisy 1988 CLV LaserDisc to a DVD at roughly ~6432kbps, it looks pretty great for the most part but I think the sheer amount of noise causes some artifacts since it was just recorded at a regular DVD video bitrate. The audio sounds ok, apparently it is AC-3 @224kbps but it doesn't really sound as good as it should, I am not sure if the original LD just sounds like this or if PPP-Raw fucked up the audio. I also added a Russian fan dub that I found on a dodgy website, it is really not great and is basically just 3 people narrating over the dialogue but it's too obscure not to include.

I will also include the soundtrack in this release since it is awesome!
