datte's release modded dekinai (crazy high effort i know) to include sephirotic's OP styling, and also restyled all dialogue to ghandi sans. only issue was that the restyling (allegedly) messed with some typesetting. this release also differs in the fact i spliced fmttm into the netflix dub.

FYI I'm trying to coordinate a new amalgamated English subtitle collated from the best bits of each of the previous translations since for example, utterly borked handling of tone aside, there are some 'small-talk' dialogue sections (i.e. not plot related) in the new Netflix translation that seem to make more sense in context than any of the previous releases. Yes, I'm aware there's been plenty of similar projects before - I plan to use crowdsourced submissions from /m/ to avoid my own bias + ideally a couple of non-US English editors to counterbalance strong American input yankifying it & I think that plus the nuances made more obvious by placing all the previous translations side-by-side line-by-line should make contentious lines more obvious and hopefully lead to a (more) definitive result than past releases. Soon also going to be helping a dude do a shot-by-shot composite of episode 16 with the best sources available for each shot. Going to try and avoid Sephirotic-style quality loss by working with CRF=0 transcodes of said sources if at all possible. Will be a good year or so before the former is done to an acceptable standard though.

Crowdsourcing is dubious at the best of times, but using /m/ as a sounding board is downright laughable. There's no reason to trust anonymous '''experts''' over having one or two good editors pick through it with a fine toothed comb like arid and baws are already doing

Wasn't Datte13's subs a combination of Dekinai and Sephirotic with some TS fixes for each? I know I contributed to reporting some issues for v2/v3 patches and uploaded some fixes not included (for an OP that was broken). I think including the latest patched version as the primary default would have been better than each unedited track individually. :( Or at least would be a good base to work off of for Arid-Baws definitive edition.

@Mabby We are using datte as a base. fyi, the only changes datte made was restlying the dialogue to ghandi sans and replacing the kfx in the op. i remember there were ts issues caused by that restyling though, so i ended up not using it for this low effort mux cause i didnt feel like fixing those issues.

@mcbaws21 Ah, I see. Well in case you don't already have it, here are the subs with the latest patches and fixes. No signs track, just the full English subtitles from Datte13. I applied all the public patches and fixed remaining issues that were in the comments. Unfortunately I don't remember if there was anything else that I or others reported that still needed attention and the comment section is now gone. The only thing I can recall is the OP being broken in 21' that I did end up posting a fixed file for. After all the patches, I believe most of the TS problems were resolved, but haven't gone through and done a full QC since.

new bluray release has lossless audio for netflix and adv, but that's it.

oh i had no clue germany wasn't the only country to get a new bd release. i just saw german blurays getting uploaded to acm so i assumed. i see that on ab the new region a blurays are tagged as remastered. are you sure that the video is the same and not possibly better than old japanese source? also, i know it's probably only adding to the pile of work and you have better stuff to do, but if i provided the german dts-hd ma could you mux it in instead of the dvd audio i provided a while ago?

i can get ahold of it myself, dw about it. as for the video, it's identical. i'm not sure what my plans will be for including dubs, probably just english dubs for the main release. i might release the rest of the dubs separately or in some form of collector's edition release, idk.

Dynit is making a BD edition, which will be the best as always. Wait for the BDMV.

@Interruptor I'm pretty sure it's already out? If we're talking about the same BD, I've already seen it, and it's identical to the JPBD. I would probably still prefer Yurasyk's filtering over whatever Dynit would have done if they did improve the source anyways.

@Interruptor The Dynit BD is worse than the GKids Blu-Ray. It has worse bitrates and compression in motion compared to the US BD. First BD in a while (aside from Inuyasha) where the encoding is worse than the US release

Would you be willing to include the 2.0 audio mix for your final release with Arid? The 2.0 and 5.1 audio tracks use different sound effects and stuff. The acting isn't re-recorded like it is for Gunbuster, but the different SFX change the feel a little and are both worth experiencing.

@Mabby Do you know where the video patches for Datte13's release are available? The separated AB upload of the director's cut episodes doesn't seem to have the V2 & V3 of S01E21.

For everyone watching this, I recommend the Dekinai track. It's based on Bloat which was based on the ADV translation and should include the dialogue fixes in the Sephirotic track. It's also a proper fansub with the best TS.

[Arid-Baws] is cancelled. They couldn't find a TLC and Arid dropped out after publicly stating he disliked his work on it. I found a TLC, so I'm doing it with Baws under [HachiRoku-Baws]. ETA is 3-4 months.
