It's not actually like that, the only thing that folder compression offers is just as its name says: folder compression. The files are untouched and it's only the folders what are compressed. (This is an overview and not the best explanation, I know). Yeah, that lowers the file size but if you want to play the contents you'll have to uncompress it.
