MTL

Is it what I think it is? Machine Translation?

@kaisama13 I'll upload it in a bit

@warui Yes, MTL=Machine Translation. That's the only available version for volumes 1-5, but considering it's from Baka-Tsuki you can rest easy that it has gone through good editing.

Editing a MTL doesn't mean an accurate translation but I understand if there's nothing else. Wonder if the TL of the other volumes would TLC the first 5 volumes or maybe an Official English release.

@Shadow_Monarch Funny thing is, that translation began in 2012, so if you TODAY just run the raw text through deepl/google translate, I strongly suspect the output you'd get would be more accurate/flowing and make more sense than all the editing done back then...

@warui Look, I didn't say MTL=accurateTL at all, that's common sense that it isn't. My point is only MTL are the ones that exists for those volumes and often what makes MTL likely unreadable is it's grammar/TLs which doesn't make sense most of the time, but considering it has gone through editing you won't have to worry for it that much.

Now, if you're saying that you'll get more accurate TL if you run MTL of those now, you may be right but I'm sure you'll still get sentences that doesn't make any sense at all, so you'll still need good editing. But, if you have the time to do the good MTL and good editing you're very much welcome to do so. I'm not forcing you to read MTLs and I'm not saying MTL is accurate TL, what I'm saying is that what's available right now and it is not unreadable unlike the most MTLs. Hope that much is clear.

@Shadow_Monarch I am not even presenting that argument nor did I add anything to your words. Unless you were part of the MTL team at BakaTsuki I am not faulting you whatsoever since I wrote "but I understand if there’s nothing else". However, no amount of editing of an MTL will that involve a true representation of an accurate translation since relevant information could be misrepresented.

Which is why I also added that maybe the TL's for the other volumes could maybe take a look back on the first 5 books maybe even TLC the inaccurate parts or preferably an official English release could happen instead. Especially since this is a good series.

I won't try to sell MTLs to you as a highly accurate TL (I avoid MTL too whenever possible). Again, what I just said is this MTL is better compared to the usual MTLs. Claiming that you'll get better results just by using today's MTL raw output is absolute garbage (MTL process here is far from just a simple copy/paste from MTL results). But then again, you're very much welcome to try and do so.

Saying you would fault me if I'm part of Baka-Tsuki MTL team(which I'm not) is just nonsense. They haven't done anything wrong, they don't owe anything to anyone and I didn't claim that good editing makes MTL a highly accurate TL. In fact, I did leave those "(MTL)" on filenames for that very reason. But what I just meant to say was this MTL from BT is better compared to the usual MTLs you'll find considering the process involved.

@Shadow_Monarch The MTL process link you cited says this:

As a side note, I am currently not doing any of the above. If I'm reading it, I'm reading it with a dictionary in one hand and Dover's in the other. I also use Denshi Jisho's online dictionary. Due to this, I am not doing Machine Conversions anymore.

Look, all you did was share a torrent for a series to others like myself and me asking if that was really a MTL. There was definitely no need to try to defend it whatsoever but you did. I also mentioned how it's more than likely potential to be inaccurate and hoping the translators for the other series would go back to the first 5 volumes and maybe at least do a TLC (translation check) on them to spot anything that may need correction. Doesn't matter about how much coherent editing there was, I'm talking about potential inaccurate translation.

Get a grip and stop defending MTL's especially when you aren't even involved in it and also said you try to avoid them. Once again, if the MTL is all that's available not much can be done unless somebody who knows Japanese takes it upon themselves and wants to work on it for the community. Thanks for taking the time to share this to us regardless. Oh and thanks for indicating those specific vols are MTL's too.

@warui Okay, this just got stupid. My bad, I thought you were the same person who say's he'll get better results from today's raw MTL, that what's really ticked me off (you and that guy have both default avatar and you didn't even pointed it out too, that you're not the one who said that lol) I didn't even mention accuracy till you do. I only said this is better than most MTLs because of good editing now. Did I mention it's accurate? It was tagged as MTL for the reason that it's more inaccurate than usual TLs.

Defending MTLs as highly accurate (not even Human TLs and Official ones are perfectly accurate), I didn't do that? I only defended this MTL vs most MTL (because there's a fool who thinks he'll get better result if he just used current raw MTL output even without editing, therefore belittling efforts of some who actually contributes to the community no matter how small). But, definitely not defended MTL=accuracy.

Again, my bad, sorry I mistook you as the same person who said that. I got no qualms about MTL being more inaccurate than usual TLs, that's pretty obvious and to be expected. Long story short, what I am just saying and just realized that shouldn't even be directed to you at all was:

This Baka-Tsuki's MTL > most MTLs/today's MTL raw output.

That's the only point I am defending about this MTL, nothing else, not its accuracy or whatever else.
