do you filter the source ?

the only filter for this one is libaom's denoiser for the grain if that's what you mean

so you encode from source, i don't know, it may be better, other people still prefer to use vapoursynth before feeding the input to the encoder, the image still looks noisy but i don't know how it compares to the bd !

the noise is the added grain rendered in the av1 decoder. it's what I mean when I say film grain synthesis (a feature in av1). my intention was to keep grain as an effect
