A Japanese subtitle track for the infamous banned Pokémon episode Dennou Senshi Porygon. This was originally meant just for myself as a base for my Finnish translation, but I've now uploaded it separately by request. The raw it was based on and against which it was timed is the anonymous file that can be found for instance from the WinxBloom1980&Puto raw torrent. Thus it also includes the follow-up commentary explaining the case that accompanied episode 39 when the show began airing again on April 16, 1998.

The first half (up to the commercial break at 12:40) has been checked against this old, random 2ch thread archive – i.e. something written by a native speaker – after I first wrote it down based on the audio track, so it should be completely coherent. The second half, the preview and the follow-up commentary are only based on the audio and should also be largely correct, though there are a few outlying lines that were either too difficult to hear thanks to the non-ideal audio quality or for which I didn't just seem to find anything that both definitely seemed to fit and matched what I heard for whatever reason. In particular, Kojirou's line at 14:37, the first half of Nyarth's line at 16:31 and the very end of Yadama's line at 23:49 are more likely than not a bit off, and possibly some others as well. I do believe it is still almost completely accurate otherwise, but you've been warned.

It should go without saying, but if you are able to iron those oddities out, don't be shy – go ahead and upload your fixed version online. Until then, hopefully this will be of use to whoever stumbles across it.

Thank you very much. ^_^

bluesun looked over it and made notes: https://pastebin.com/tR6s03pU I applied them to the subtitles: https://kitsunekko.net/subtitles/japanese/Pokemon/Pocket Monsters - 038 (Dennou Senshi Porygon) JP v2 [Soulweaver].ass

I added credits in a commented line at the start. I wasn't sure if you were fine with me keeping the [Soulweaver] tag without you approving the changes. Worst case scenario, a v3 can be made.

Heh, nice; that's certainly a familiar name and someone I know to be way more proficient in the language than I am :) Looks like there were a few typos and stupid homonym errors from not checking the IME output correctly (shoutouts to the "cooperative command"), but also a bunch of actually wrong bits caused by mishearing, inadequate skill, or both; personally I'm still glad there were only 30-ish lines with mostly just minor blemishes considering my own skill level and the fact that this script was barely proofread at all until now.

In theory I don't mind the tag, but I guess it does make it seem, despite the credit comment in the subs, a bit like I'm taking the credit for the aforementioned fixes as well (which I believe to all be good) when I didn't even put that version out myself :p Maybe it could be some kind of combination tag ([Soulweaver-bluesun] or whatever) instead, but do what you feel like what's right. I'll probably also soon hide this torrent; the rationale of making a torrent rather than just linking to a file directly in the comments was to make it easier for someone to find the file if they were looking for it, but now that's no longer what is desired. You could upload the updated version to fill that use again, I guess, though dunno how useful that is for single-episode subtitles after all.
