Some useful info for this episode:

• Just like in the 14th episode, there is almost next to nothing information about Kyoto itself, but you can learn about sakuramochi. So! Sakuramochi is sweet pink-colored rice cake with a red bean paste center, and wrapped in a pickled cherry blossom leaf. Rice cake is called "mochi" and cherry blossom, like you already might know, is called "sakura". Therefore, sakuramochi.
• Different regions of Japan has different style of sakuramochi. For example Kanto-style (Tokyo and such) is anko (red bean paste) wrapped in cylinder-shaped pink mochi: Kansai-style (Kyoto, Osaka), that our cute little Kyoto penguin eats in this episode, is the same anko, but wrapped in a ball-shaped pink mochi:
