It's a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth traditionally used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods. With rising of plastic bags, popularity of furoshiki dramatically went down, but lately, when people remembered about ecology and eco-friendly things and materials, furoshiki made a comeback. If you are a frequent anime watcher, you've probably seen at least once a cloth that students or office workers wrap around their bento boxes. That's furoshiki.
