Well, the Spanish word "chao" is just the Italian word "ciao" loaned into Spanish, and respelled. It's also not a very common word in Spanish, I'd say on about the same level as "ciao" is used in English.

KIRAMEKU HOSHI NO CHIKARA DE

We use it a lot tho, like everyday and multiple times in a casual setting. It's use depends on the country because spanish speaking countries be like that. Also "Smile" in italian is not "Sonrisa", but it is in spanish
