Description

Series information Source(s): R2 BD, R1 DVD Video: 1920x1080 (16:9 DAR) / HEVC 10-Bit (~14.9 Mbps) / 23.976fps / Ordered Chapters Audio: R2 Japanese / 2ch FLAC (687 kbps) & R1 English / 2ch FLAC (687 kbps) [Lord Ashram] Subtitles: English / Sign Only ASS [KgOlve-M74]

Filters used: FineDehalo Encode settings: ref=6 / crf=18 / preset=very slow Encode Comparison

Notes: This encode retains the native film grain of the remastered movie footage. Other than some very very light dehaloing, no other filtering was applied. It's a shame that it was severely vertically cropped by the studio to fit in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

R1 English audio was muxed in from the modified AC3 track in Lord Ashram's release with further audio resynching done by me. Subs were taken from KgOlve and originally modified by Macros74, with further edits by myself replacing the literal magic translations with their true spell titles consistent with the nomenclature referenced by the KanzakaDex & Inverse.org.

Examples: Vibration BlastDam Brass Blue Magic WaveBlam Blazer Mega Explosion ArrayMega Brand

Movie 3 really cropped so bad, that it's better to watch dvd-rips.

The cropping is bad, but the high definition transfer itself looks great.

@Spc_away guess it's like the widescreen dragon ball blurays

They cropped not only redundant background , but interesting things too. So, dvd-rip only.

I've heard a lot about x264 being superior for grain retention, is that no longer the case? Why are quite a few groups using HEVC for old shows full of grain?

Because retaining 100 % of grain will result in very big sizes. HEVC reduces it but not it does not eliminate grain, so it is a balanced solution.
